Lord of the Rings

As a life long Hobbit fan, I thought it only fitting to add a page and point out some interesting LOTR facts learned along the way.

While we stayed only on the south island, and mainly in the Queenstown and Southland area, there were many areas here where LOTR was filmed. We saw Isengard, Fangorn forest, the Misty Mountains, Treebeard (allegedly), and a number of other cool sites.

On our jetboating trip down the Dart River, our guide, whose name is now forgotten, told us how he and his buddies were hired to be extra's in the film. They were given the role of "dead orcs" and had to lay about all day in costume. He told us how the worst job was to be a dead orc laying in the river, as it was pretty cold and miserable. But, as they got to wear a wetsuit under their costumes, and got paid more for it, they decided to do it anyway.

The Glenorchy area is the location where Lothlorien, Amon Hen, Orthanc, and Isengard where filmed.

More to come..
